Aather memory 25
Memory: Fighting Drake, getting shot
Regained: Day 300 / Eliza's Brother game
Form: Memories come in the form of a small, dented candle-lantern with a mostly melted candle stub inside: light the candle to view the memory. Three uses until the wick drowns. (2/3 left)
What happened:
* Brianna is out at night looking for Drake, zooming up and down streets and calling for him in a sing-songy voice.
* She eventually realizes that instead of hoping she runs into him, maybe she should think about where he would go, particularly if he transforms back into Brittney. So she checks out the church and hears voices within.
* She enters the church, but:
"The explosion, a stab of yellow, blinded her. She stopped as fast as she could, but not fast enough. She slammed into a pew and flew headfirst, unable to see. Anyone else would have smashed face-first into the marble altar, but Brianna was not anyone else. As she was flying she tucked, spun, and landed on her feet on the altar. Like a cat. The wave of pain from the impact with the pew made her gasp. But she fought down the urge to scream."
* Then she looks at Brittney and holy shit the entire left side of her face has been shot off, her neck is torn open, etc. Notably, she is not bleeding and still standing like everything's normal. Jamal, a big kid, has a rifle and is preparing to shoot again.
"He leveled the gun at Brittney's chest but in the half second it took him to find the trigger with his finger Brianna was on him. She hit the barrel and knocked it away just as BLAM! She grabbed Jamal by the neck, yanked him forward so fast his head snapped back. She punched him six times in less than a second and Jamal crumpled, blood gushing from his nose and lips."
* Jamal taken care of, Brianna tries to find out if Brittney is okay while at the same time not actually turning to look at her injuries, so she misses it when Brittney starts to change back into Drake, only noticing when his whip hand goes for Jamal's rifle.
*"She buried the knife in Drake's chest. It was a huge blade, a bowie knife, as big as a chef's knife and a lot thicker. The blade was in all the way, up to the hilt. Drake grinned. "This should be fun." Brianna expected him to try to turn the gun toward her but instead he tossed it aside. Then, with his real hand, he drew the knife out of his chest, slowly, as if relishing every inch of steel. Brianna stared, mesmerized. And almost missed the sudden flick of Drake's tentacle arm as it swept behind her. Almost. Not quite.
Brianna dropped and the whip went over her head. Drake threw Brianna's own knife at her, but it wasn't even close. The knife stuck into the back of a pew. Brianna pulled her sawed-off shotgun from her runner's pack, leveled, aimed, and fired.
The blast caught Drake in the mouth. It turned his thin-lipped smirk into a gaping hole, like a sinkhole. Drake reached with his tentacle to feel the hole. He stuck the end of his whip hand into his own destroyed mouth. The pink-red tip came out through the back of his head and waved at Brianna. Drake made a grunting sound that might have been a laugh if he'd had tongue and teeth and lips.
Brianna dropped back a few feet. Drake's face seemed to melt and re-form. She could see individual teeth, white pearls in the starlight, moving like insects, crawling out of the shredded flesh to find places in newly reshaped gums.
Brianna felt for the wire she hung from her belt. … "This is what you were going to do to me at the power plant, remember, Drake?" Brianna winced as Drake's tongue grew inside the still-gaping hole of his mouth. "Oh, sorry, you can't really chit-chat, can you?" Brianna taunted. "Well, the thing is, whether it's me running into a wire at two hundred miles an hour, or the wire running into you at two hundred miles an hour, it works just the same."
* SO… YEAH… Brianna uses her garrote to cut Drake into pieces. It goes pretty well, except for the time it gets stuck at his spine and she has to motor her feet and look ridiculous until Drake's torso splits into two pieces. Jamal notices what's going on at this point and starts screaming in horror.
* Brianna, on the other hand, wants to start screaming in triumph and wipe Drake's blood all over her face, because she's herself. She's too busy laughing at Jamal and being proud of herself to notice that Drake is still moving, and he wraps his tentacle arm around her legs, pulling her to the floor. The bones of her ankles crush together as Drake squeezes. She can't budge at all.
* Drake starts putting himself back together as Brianna is trapped on the floor. She can't reach her knife. She finally goes for her shotgun, yanks it free, and goes to pull the trigger, but… too late, Jamal has also found his gun, and has shot Brianna in the chest/shoulder with his rifile! Brianna is quickly in shock and doesn't even know what's happening at this point. She can only watch as Drake starts switching back to Brittney and as Jamal uses Brianna's own garrote to tie Brittney's hands together and lead her out of the church. Before he goes, Jamal leans down to Brianna, places the barrel of the rifle against her face, and says, "I could kill you. Most likely Drake comes out on top. But if not, you remember that I coulda killed you. But I didn't."
* A FEW MINUTES LATER, EDILIO ARRIVES, drawn by the gunshots. Brianna can't really talk, but she manages to communicate that she tried to fight Drake, couldn't, and that Edilio should probably get Sam to take care of things.
* Edilio tells her they don't know where Sam is, or Taylor, and Brianna tries to tell him about Jamal, but before she can, she passes out. Whoops!
What it means:
* WELL, DAMN :(
* This memory basically undoes what Shiny did in the mini-heartgame, though, and brings back Brianna's violent, fight-y side.
* This memory combined with her other Drake memories is unsettling! He's really dangerous!
* She has no idea WTF is up with him and Brittney sharing a body, though.
