Aather memory 23
Memory: Getting off the roof
Regained: Day 297 / Nimue game
Form: A crystal. Hold to view memory. Good for one use. (0/1)
What happened:
* Breeze wakes up on the roof of the power plant to the sound of gunfire down below. She looks over the edge and sees Dekka, and gets her attention by throwing the pigeon bones down at her. Through some charades, they work out a system and Brianna jumps over the edge, while Dekka switches her gravity-canceling powers on and off so that Brianna eventually lands safely.
* Dekka tells her everyone thought she was dead; Brianna's response to that is "Well, I'm not, duh," and the two of them move to hide behind a truck with Mike, a kid who was guarding the plant earlier.
Mike: Hey, Drake told Jack you were dead! Jack totally lost it believing him.
Brianna: [grins] Oh he did, did he?
Mike: Totally. He went all Aragorn on Drake. Tried to kill him. That's how we… I mean, how I got away. [at this, he bursts into tears, burying his face in his hands]
Dekka: You have a thing with Computer Jack?
Brianna: [pleased] I didn't think I did. I guess I do.
Dekka: [swallows] Okay. … You going to tell me how you came to be up on the roof?
Brianna: Um… no. But here's the thing: there's a door up there that leads down inside. If I had a crowbar or something, I could get it open, get in and out of there before they know it. Smack the—
Mike: [still sobbing] No, no! The wires are still up.
Brianna: What wires?
Mike: Drake. He stretched wires all over the place so if you came in, they'd cut you up.
* This is shocking, really unpleasant news to Brianna, who up until this moment figured she was pretty invincible even against Drake.
Mike: That's why Jack was trying to kill Drake. Jack told him he had to take them all down, and Drake pretended like he did, but he didn't.
Dekka: Guess it's a good thing Jack likes your act, Breeze. Mike here got away.
* Brianna is still upset and doesn't answer, so Dekka turns her attention to Mike, putting an arm around him.
Dekka: [to Brianna] Don't let it shake you up, girl. You had a bad day. We've all had a very bad day. [to Mike] I'm so sorry about Mickey. I know you guys were buds.
Mike: [shoving her off] You don't care about Mickey. You care about her because she's a freak, like you.
* Dekka lets it go and decides to let Mike work things out on his own, so she turns to Brianna again.
Dekka: You had a close call. But right now the important thing is you start listening to other people and not do crazy stuff that leaves you trapped on a roof when we need you. Or worse yet, sliced up.
Brianna: Yeah… [then, recovering a bit] Thanks, Mom.
What it means:
* Drake's still a total psychopath, I see!
* The idea of the wires is… shocking. It's knowledge that, yes, Drake (and probably others) will kill her if they can get to her. It doesn't matter that she's 12.
* This memory is the first time someone calls her a freak right to her face. So while she's known about the anti-mutant sentiment in town for a while, this memory brings it to a more personal level.
* Also, the fact that kids are actively killing each other in the FAYZ. Not just fighting, but murdering each other.
